At this point, we can clearly imagine your confusion.

To clear your confusion, we will tell you the difference between orthodontics and dentistry.

Difference Between Orthodontics and Dentistry

Dentistry is a broad field of medicine that involves everything to do with your oral health and care. But, like all other disciplines of science, dentistry too is divided into specific, specialized categories. Orthodontics is just one of those specialized categories.

After completing a general course in dentistry (BDS), which is usually taught over 5 years, the candidate may proceed to enroll is a specialized course for orthodontics (MDS in Orthodontics). This is a 3 years course that focuses mainly on teeth alignment, correctness, and straightening.

It is important to remember that all orthodontists are dentists, but not all dentists are licensed orthodontists because they require an additional degree for it.
