Importance of Orthodontic Treatments

Posted on 2/6/2023 by Evan
Importance of Orthodontic TreatmentsOrthodontics is a branch of dentistry that specializes in correcting teeth and jaws to their right positions. Treatment may include the use of braces, retainers, and aligners. Treatment helps fix issues such as gaps between teeth, overbite, and underbite, correcting crooked teeth and fixing gaps between teeth.

Improved Oral Health

Routinely brushing and flossing which prevents conditions such as gingivitis and tooth decay is more effective when a patient's teeth are straight. Good orthodontic treatment results in a less likelihood of occurrence of problems such as dental cavities, loss of teeth, gum diseases, worn tooth enamel, and impaired speech.

Jaw Health

Jaws perform an important function in chewing food, drawing extra air in during exertion, and speaking. Teeth that are misaligned affect a person's bite. Both overbite and underbite have direct stress on the jaw and its muscles leading to jaw pain. Also misaligned lower and upper jaws place stress on teeth making them wear to become weak and more susceptible to breaking. Treatment of these problems enhances jaw functions.

Psychological Health

Straight and even teeth are the basis of a quality smile. Good smiles not only enhance physical appearance but also give people more confidence in social situations. When crooked teeth are straightened, they make it easier to clean doing away with bad breath that often pulls people away. In addition proper jaw alignment children speak with ease.

Improvement in Nutrition

Misaligned teeth can reduce one's ability to chew properly and at times bring difficulty in eating certain meals. Many of these foods have high nutritional value and therefore avoiding them could restrict choices to only the softer and less nutritious foods.

Reduces Teeth Grinding

Misaligned jaws often cause teeth to grind. This could end up causing neck pains and even headaches, especially in children. Jaw alignment at an early age also helps prevent future problems. Come see us to get the smile you deserve.
